Toto Asia: A Simple Definition

The Band Toto Asia

Toto was expanding its production facilities abroad, and doing business in France and Germany, Indonesia, Korea and Taiwan, Thailand and the People's Republic of China. The company believed that North America as a growth market for Washlet bidets and toilets, in contrast to its "base" markets of Japan and China.

Dhaniram Toto was documenting Toto words to ensure that the next generation could read the words. However, many of the words were being replaced with foreign words, such as dui, which is Bengali for verandah.

Origins

Established in 1917, Toto's beginnings mirrored Japan's development. In the early years of its existence, the company made products to meet the demands of modern, contemporary urban housing. It had the first tunnel kilns in the country that could produce ceramics continuously. It also pioneered the use of automation for production control, which helps to increase efficiency and consistency.

In the latter half of the 1980s, the company began to expand overseas in order to profit from sales and new markets. It launched the Cera Trading Company, importing and selling other products of manufacturers to complement its own line of plumbing fittings and sanitary earthenware. This strategy helped to increase sales and expand the market share of the company globally.

In the 1990s, Toto began to concentrate on research and development for water-related appliances. It also redesigned its distribution system to better serve customers and improve profit. The company employed the same just-in-time approach to its supply chain management and sales program. This resulted in a greater level of satisfaction of customers.

Toto has been able to continue to innovate on the toilet technology. Its latest toilet has a strong, eco-friendly tornado flush. The company makes use of recycled water for its manufacturing process, and also has a green purchasing policy. In addition to toilets, Toto produces bathtubs and faucets and hand dryers that are more energy efficient than standard models.

The company's first museum opened in the year 2015 and features exhibits about Toto's iconic products and their development, its group companies (all having to do with ceramics) and the history of plumbing and products such as bath units, and in a separate gallery, Toto products sold around the world. The museum also has the bathroom equipped with a WASHLET as well as other toilet innovations.

Before beginning the formation of Toto members of the group did session work for various musicians. Keyboardist David Paich, drummer Jeff Porcaro, and guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather all performed on the album Silk Degrees by Boz Scaggs. They also performed on records by Steely Dan, Seals and Crofts, and Sonny and Cher.

Discography

With a name as evocative as Asia one would expect the group to be prog queens and kings but they're actually a fairly simple rock band. The band started out as a group and recorded two albums: 1979's self-titled debut album, and 1980's Armed to the Teeth. The group has a wide musical background but their biggest success came in 1982 with Toto IV.

The album was a major blockbuster, but not without its own set of issues. Record companies put the band on the position with the order "give us a hit record or we'll sack you" and the pressure was on to give it.  안전놀이터 순위  was able to do this with the help from the smash hit "Africa."

Toto's musical mastery is a result of their previous experience since the members had been session musicians for artists such as Boz Scaggs, Steely Dan, and Seals and Crofts prior the group. Their sonic trademark has become the standard for  the '80s, and has influenced many contemporary artists.

The album starts out hard with songs like Running Out of Time or Unknown Soldier that show the band's ability to write fantastic AOR tunes that slowly get into your head. The album also features more jazzy, slower tracks such as The Little Things and Chinatown. And the album ends with Great Expectations, a song that mixes folk with distortion AOR and could sound like a complete flop, but works amazingly well.

After Toto IV, the band's fortunes turned towards the negative. David Hungate left to concentrate on his solo career, and the band had to go through numerous drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball left the group due to drug charges. The band remained with Michael Porcaro, Steve Lukather and Michael Porcaro.

Despite the turmoil, Toto forged ahead and released Isolation however, which was not as successful as IV. The band was able to release an album that was chart-topping, Kingdom of Desire, in 1992. The album was the last of Toto's lineup and the debut of Simon Phillips, a new singer.

Line-up

Turn Back, the band's third studio album, was a return to a traditional sextet style and a more consistent, stronger album with a sharper edge. Its more punk-rock sound was a reflection of the maturation of the group and included drummer Bobby Kimball's increased ability on the drums and a more confident, mature vocal delivery by singer Joseph Williams. David Paich's work was sharper, more intricate, and less derivative than earlier recordings.

After touring to promote their album, the band recorded their Amsterdam live performance that was released by Eagle Records as a 2-CD set entitled Falling In Between. The studio album came out a few months later, and the group went on a long-distance tour to promote the album. In this time, keyboardist Greg Phillinganes filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate left the group to spend more time with his family.

In 1998, Paich & Lukather began exploring old tapes and demos to find songs that had never been recorded prior to. The album was released in 2001 and released as a double album titled Then and Now. It was the band's first album that did not contain the single track "A". The album also contained an previously unreleased track "Kari-Anne".

By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The fourth album, Old Is New, was a commercial failure and vocalist Williams was suffering from a severe case of laryngitis that limited his singing abilities. Hungate also returned to Nashville and Leland Sklar's drumming duties were replaced by Shem Von Schroeck.

Downes along with the other original members of Asia--Wetton, Palmer, and Howe--convened an event in England in the beginning of 2006 to discuss the possibility of officially reforming the group. The lineup, which was minus Howe (who was busy with Yes at the time) was eventually referred to as Toto XIV and toured extensively.

In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The group also had the appearance of singer Michael McDonald, and a backing singer named Mabvuto Carpenter.
